AgriFoRwArdS Supervisor Activities

This page details activities and events, which those within the AgriFoRwArdS CDT Supervisor Pool, may be expected to engage in throughout the 2021/22 academic year.

Ongoing Activities

Some activities require engagement throughout the academic year, or are not specifically required in a certain month.

We politely request that all members of the AgriFoRwArdS Supervisor Pool complete their institutional mandatory training:

Equality in the Workplace; Unconscious Bias; Active Bystander – Challenging Unacceptable Behaviour; Inclusive Modern Higher Education Practices; Safeguarding; Recruitment and Selection Workshop; Trans Awareness; Inclusive Research Environments.

Courses may vary by Institution.

The newsletter is published quarterly, in October, January, April and July.

You may be asked to contribute to the newsletter and/or website.

We would expect you to make us aware of any relevant agri-food robotics research so that it can be included.

In any publications, presentations etc. completed you should acknowledge ESPRC as the funder with the following statement.

“This work was supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council [EP/S023917/1]”

Monthly Activities

October

Occurs on the 3rd Friday of the month.

Supervisors are invited to present at these sessions, please do get in touch if you are interested in presenting, or have a recommendation for a presenter (agriforwards.cdt@lincoln.ac.uk).

We politely ask that supervisors attend as many of these events as they can.

October's event will be held as part of the L-CAS Away Day on the 8th October 2021.

Primary and Secondary PhD Supervisors are expected to attend. Other Supervisors are very welcome to attend.

  • University of Lincoln – 21st October 2021, 10:00 to 11:00
  • University of Cambridge – date TBC
  • University of East Anglia – date TBC

These meetings occur early in the 1st Semester of the year, and provide an opportunity for new, current and potential supervisors to hear about the CDT and raise any questions they may have with the Team.
Each University holds their own meetings so that specific University procedures can be discussed.

November

Occurs on the 3rd Friday of the month.

Although this session is not intended for Academics, Supervisors will be required to engage with RRI training in the future.

December

Currently proposed for December 2021 (date TBC).

Students will receive training on 'Implementing Robotics into Your Business – improving competitiveness' as well as a tour of the facilities.

Supervisors who are interested in attending this training are welcome to express their interest.

January

May

22nd and 23rd June 2021.

You may be contacted regarding presenting at the conference.

As a supervisor, you would be expected to attend.

This is a 2-day workshop, at the University of Lincoln Riseholme Campus.

The training gives an overview of various aspects of agriculture and the opportunities and challenges within the sector, and provide an overview of current research in the sector and particularly at the University of Lincoln.

Academics who are new to the Lincoln Institute for Agri-Food Technology and/or Lincoln Agri-Robotics will be invited to attend these sessions.

July

Dates TBC

The Summer School is a week-long residential workshop for all students and will take place at University of East Anglia.

This is a mandatory activity.

Dates TBC

Students will receive an overview of the food manufacturing industry, its sectors and its food quality / safety challenges and the related digitalisation links to inspection, human error, hygienic design etc. Productivity, efficiency, OEE, factory and process design and the sector advancement opportunities for robotics and wider digitalisation.

Although this session is not specifically for Academics, there may be opportunity for some Supervisors to attend.

January's meeting will be held as part of the CDT Annual Conference at the University of Lincoln.

Primary and Secondary PhD Supervisors are expected to attend. Other Supervisors are very welcome to attend.

August 

This event is still to be confirmed, but is likely to take place in August 2022.
