This Friday, 21/01/2022 at 3 pm (BST), we will be continuing the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Agri-Food Robotics Seminar Series with a talk by Philip Tovey, Head of Futures at DEFRA. After Philip’s presentation, there will be a panel discussion including Philip, and some of our students and supervisors. You can join in interactively on Zoom or watch live on YouTube.
Phil is the Head of Futures in Defra’s Chief Scientist Office, leading Government foresight on critical environmental systems. During his time in Defra, Phil has established specialist foresight capabilities in Global Catastrophic Risk, Anticipatory Narrative and works on cross-Government strategy, focusing how the UK can gain strategic advantage through science and technology towards a sustainable environment goal. As researcher in cognitive phenomenology, Phil’s work centres on how the future, and temporality more broadly, manifests in our experience of decision. Before joining Defra, Phil was an embedded researcher and lead on Leadership and Ethics cultural change for Avon and Somerset Police. A former Royal Marine Commando, Phil still serves as a Reservist in Strategic Communications.
